NP News – Oct 11

The State Administration Council (SAC) released the statement that the explosion that recently occurred at the internal displaced people camp near the KIA headquarters Laiza town was due to the explosion of ammonium nitrate storage warehouse.

The SAC’s Information Team informed to medias on October 11 as abovementioned.

Regarding the explosion, some media falsely claimed that the explosion was caused by an aerial bombardment by the Tatmadaw, as well as by heavy weapon fire.

According to the reports from the ground situation, the ammonium nitrate storage near the KIA’s training area was exploded by error, the SAC said.

The munitions are owned by the leaders of the KIA group and Daw Arli (Arli Kye) and have stored about 105 tons of munitions and other explosive materials in the warehouse.

Therefore, a sudden explosion occurred in the warehouse on the night of October 9 due to an accident, and the cause of the explosion is still being investigated, as per the statement.

Similarly, the Chinese police force is also investigating the cause at the borderline area, according to the notification issued by SAC.

Some KIA members and their families were killed and injured in the explosion.

In 2019, there were large-scale explosions at a munition storage facility near the Myanmar-China border, and in 2020 at a mine factory in Laiza region, according to the SAC.
