According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe discussed with the Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China Mr. Wang Yi to invite the Buddha tooth relic to Myanmar to convey for the fifth time.

The talk was made on 6 December at the sideline of the 8th Lancang-Mekong Foreign Ministers’ Meeting that was held in Beijing.

To strengthen the longstanding traditional ties between Myanmar and China, their meeting explored the possibility of conveying the Buddha tooth relic to Myanmar for the fifth time at an appropriate moment.

The Buddha Tooth Relic was first conveyed to Myanmar in 1955, followed by subsequent conveyances in 1994 (second time), 1996 (third time), and 2011 (fourth time).

Initially, the Buddha tooth relic was enshrined at the Mahapasana Cave on Kabaraye Hill in Yangon for 8 months of public obeisance. During its second conveyance, it was exhibited for a period of one and a half years, visiting Yangon, Nyaunglaypin, Taungoo, Pyinmana, Meiktila, and Mandalay for public veneration.

For the third time, the period of public veneration lasted nearly three months in Yangon and Mandalay. In its fourth conveyance, the tooth relic was conveyed to Yangon and Mandalay.
