Myanmar to resume No. 1 Oil Refinery Plant (Thanlyin)

The Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Senior General Min Aung Hlaing called for the prompt implementation to re-operate the No. 1 Oil Refinery (Thanlyin) located in Thanlyin Township, Yangon.

During his inspection tour of the No. 1 Oil Refinery (Thanlyin) under the Myanma Petrochemical Enterprise of the Ministry of Energy, Senior General pointed out to consider and calculate comparing the costs associated with importing fuel for domestic energy needs to the costs for fully operating the refineries possessed by the State at full capacity.
The SAC Chairman instructed by saying “It is needed to achieve its normal operation initially and emphasized the importance of subsequent upgrade works to support local energy demand”.
Moreover, the No. 1 Oil Refinery (Thanlyin) will be supportive to meet domestic energy demand, making it a beneficial project that must be promptly and successfully implemented.
Furthermore, he directed that the oil refineries should commence operations expeditiously to meet the domestic fuel demand.
Currently, lengthy queues persist at petrol stations in cities due to the surging domestic demand for fuel, and the fuel prices remain elevated.
In order to reduce petrol demand, the SAC is prioritizing the distribution of petrol upon its arrival to stations in Yangon, Mandalay, and Naypyidaw.
