The introduction ceremony of the Yangon Bus System using the QR Code scanning app for paying the bus fares was conducted at the headquarters of the Yangon Region Public Transport Committee (YRTC) located in Tarmwe Township, Yangon.

It is reported that the system has been activated on 8 January on the YBS line No. 13. On next days, the system will be fostered on the following lines – 55, 57, 58, 24, 28, and 113.

Passengers who will use the QR Code can now pay the fares only through the app without having to buy a separate bus card.

“We are processing to be available in all lines. We have two systems - Flat pay and Distance pay. Functions are similar in the app to the cards. The passengers have to fill at least K1,000 deposit. There is a limitation though, the passengers must have the minimum balance K500 in the app or the card for preventing losses of the bus companies,” Chief Operating Officer from ASTI, Ko Kyaw Thein told NP News.

The application name is known as the MPYBS+. The Android phone with at least version 6 and onwards can use the app.

The QR Code top-up process can be done at YPS KIOSK shops, G&G shops, Mingalar Cinema, Capital Supermart and Wilington Pharmacy branches.

The ASTI said that the awareness raising activities about the use of the application will also be conducted widely.
