The business owners disclosed to the NP News saying that these so called Monywa Grim Reapers group sent short mail messages to some of the businessmen in Monywa via their phone and extorted money from them.
One Monywa businessman expressed deep concern about the situation said “A significant number of Monywa Township businessmen, primarily from the real estate industry, have reported extortion threats in Sagaing Region. The amounts demanded range from 50 to 100 million Myanmar Kyat. While some entrepreneurs obey out of fear, others resist the demands and refuse to pay. The extortion involves revealing the names of the businessmen in the blackmail, and notably, all provided bank account numbers for money transfers are with female names."
A businessman in Monywa remarked, "It's bullying under the authority of the group (referring the PDF)."
Recent reports indicate that the Monywa Grim Reapers Armed Group attacked multiple security outposts within Monywa Township.
