Preparations are reportedly underway for Yangon's Thingyan festival to include two designated areas for "Walking Thingyan" celebrations.

Deputy Director General U Toe Aung of the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) informed The NP News that two Walking Thingyan Celebrations are being organized near Yangon City Hall and People's Square.

"Walking Thingyan will be part of the festivities. Moreover, the pavilions are being prepared next to Mahabandula Park. Along the Mahabandhula Road to Trader Road, similar to last year, repairs are underway for the installation of sprinklers, water fountain walkways, entertainment pavilions, and stalls," stated the Deputy Director.

In addition, preparations are also underway for the Walking Thingyan celebration in Yangon's People's Square. "There will be both entertainment pavilions and larger structures set up in the People’s Square. Additionally, there will be pathways adorned with sprinklers, designed in the style of a Walking Thingyan celebration. Preparations are also in progress at People’s Square," he added.

"Three entities collaborate to organize entertainment programs at the Yangon Central Pavilion, following the traditional Myanmar cultural practices observed in previous years. These three entities encompass film, theater, and music, working together in cooperation. Schedules have been prepared, and all parties are actively coordinating and fulfilling their respective roles to provide entertainment during the festive period," the Deputy Director elaborated.

The Yangon Central Thingyan Pavilion will reportedly feature popular "Yein" dance competitions, open to participants from preschool through university levels. The Yein dance is a traditional Myanmar dance characterized by synchronized movements, typically performed by young women. This group dance holds cultural significance, particularly during the Thingyan festival, and is often accompanied by traditional Burmese music.
