According to information from the State Administration Council (SAC), a law to prevent the intervention of foreign influencing in various fields, including politics, is schemed to be introduced.
At present, it is reported that a committee to prepare a legal bill relating to foreign and international organizations has been formed.
The drafting committee was developed in order to prevent the interference of foreign entities since it was witnessed that some parliamentarians – who are influenced by foreign nations – are penetrating while implementing the benefits of the country, national interests, security, sovereignty, territorial ownership, citizen rights, and freedoms. Those personnel are serving in various sectors, including political, security, economic, and cultural spheres.
The designated law will be drafted to suit Myanmar's characteristics after studying the legal frameworks of other countries and ASEAN countries.
“We have to welcome if the legal measure is enacted to prevent the interventions of foreign countries and bodies in our internal affairs. Similar laws exist in other countries; for example, as far as I know, Russia has such laws. There are legal measures that limit the influence of the INGOs and the international organizations. So, we also should enact such a law. As per the present situation, the INGOs and NGOs did a lot of manipulations between 2015 and 2020,” Vice Chairman of the New National Democracy Party, U Khaing Min remarks.
After the bill is drafted, recommendations proposed by the relevant ministries, departments, and the Ministry of Legal Affairs will be reviewed so as to consider the necessary amendments and supplementing in the bill.
