Due to the emergency shutdown of two natural gas power plants in Myingyan, the Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation (YESC) announced on August 13 that it would reduce electricity distribution capacity in some townships in Yangon.
The V-Power natural gas power plant in Myingyan, which supplies electricity to the national grid, experienced an emergency shutdown of its machinery on August 12.
Similarly, the Sembcorp natural gas power plant in Myingyan also suffered an emergency shutdown on August 12, resulting in a combined power supply reduction of about 4,920 megawatt-hours from both power plants.
Therefore, the YESC announced that while these power stations are offline, it is working to stabilize the power grid by increasing output from hydropower plants and implementing emergency load management measures.
Consequently, electricity distribution has been reduced in several Yangon townships, with industrial zones experiencing reduced supply during nighttime hours.
Therefore, the Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation warned of potential temporary power outages.
