Ramayana Art Exhibition held under cultural exchanges between Myanmar and India

Yangon - An Art Exhibition on the Ramayana was held as part of the cultural exchange between Myanmar and India from November 8 to 15 at the National Museum in Yangon, Myanmar. The exhibition featured 32 exquisite paintings, 6 sculptures, and 18 puppets, all provided by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi. The displayed artworks, created by renowned Indian artists, beautifully reflect the stories and teachings of the Ramayana, offering a fresh perspective that bridges tradition with contemporary expression.
During the exhibition, an event featuring Indian traditional dances and performances from the Ramayana was held on November 12. The event was welcomed by the Ambassador of India, Shri Abhay Thakur, and attended by the Chief Minister of Yangon, U Soe Thein, along with prominent cultural figures, members of the intelligentsia, friends of India, and members of the Indian community.The exhibition represents an opportunity for cultural exchanges and deeper understanding, fostering India-Myanmar friendship. By celebrating a shared cultural icon honoring the historical ties between two nations and look forward to a future of continued partnership, encouraging artistic exchanges, cultural programs, and people-to-people connections that strengthen bilateral relations.
In addition, the exhibition aims the promote cultural diplomacy that can strengthen cultural relations between Myanmar and India by sharing Indian cultural heritage, values, and traditions.Historically, the Ramayana story reached Myanmar through early Indian traders and merchants during the Beikthano era, around the 1st to 8th century AD. The early Pyu people, ancestors of the Burmese, revered the Ramayana, which later became integrated into Buddhist tales that flourished during the Bagan era in the 11th century, according to the thesis The Ramayana Drama in Myanmar by U Thaw Kaung. –
