Inle Lake in Southern Shan State, recovering from recent floods, witnessed a significant increase in tourists, particularly on the full moon day of Tazaungdaing, as reported by local residents to NP News.
"Since last September, the economic situation of Inle Lake residents who have been affected by the flood has been difficult to recover," said an official from an Inle Lake boat service business.
“Now that the water level has receded slightly, the number of tourists visiting Inle Lake during the Buddhist pilgrimage season has increased, with the peak being on the full moon day of Tazaungdaing,” said an Inle resident.
"The number of tourists has increased during this Tazaungdaing season. I guess about 2,000 per day. In October, although there were tourists, the number is not very high. It's not as many as before," said a local Inle Lake boat service provider.
It is reported that among the visitors arriving at Inle Lake, majority are the travelers from Yangon Region and Mandalay Region.
"It was really crowded on the full moon day. There weren't even any boats left. And it's still pretty crowded today. There are so many cars parked in Nyaungshwe town. In the parking lot we manage, there were over 100 cars. There wasn't even enough space for all the cars," said a local Inle Lake boat service provider.
Locals expect that in the coming months, tourist arrivals in Inle Lake will continue to increase as in previous years.
