Htet Nadi/ Thant Zin (NP News) - March 8
Locals reported to The Statesman journal that a Buddhist monk, known for his humanitarian work, was shot and killed by the PDF terrorists in Shan State.
The incident occurred on March 4 evening at the monastery located in Pekon Township. The 48-year-old monk, U Dhammasara, with 28 years of being a monkhood, was shot and killed by PDFs who arrived on four motorcycles. A local man was also killed in the attack.
The monk was known for helping refugees from conflict zones, which has left many locals upset, as reported by a local news source. The source said, "This incident in Pekon is really frustrating. The monk was also helping refugees from the conflict. To have this happen to him like this is a misfortune."
In connection to the event, the 1006th Battalion and the Pekon Township PDF have denied involvement in the attack. However, local sources strongly maintain that the PDF is responsible for the killing.
A man commented, "The PDF from Pekon Township killed the religious leader. They made a statement denying it, but the truth is clear; there was a shooting. The weapons and uniforms they used are undeniable. Last year, they even set fire to a monastery in Southern Shan State. This is something that can't be denied."
Over 100 Buddhist monks and religious leaders have been killed across the country by the PDF terrorists since 2021 political transition in Myanmar.
