On March 25, during a meeting of the State Administration Council (SAC) held in Naypyidaw, the Chairman of the SAC, Prime Minister, and Senior General Min Aung Hlaing spoke about the successful holding of free and fair multi-party democratic general elections in Myanmar.
The SAC is preparing to hold a free and fair multi-party democratic general election, and while stability is needed for the election to be held, it has already conducted the 2024 Population and Housing Census to ensure accurate voter registration.
"We have already collected the statistics of the population aged 18 years and above who can vote. Therefore, the elections are scheduled to be held in the third and fourth weeks of December 2025 and the first and second weeks of January 2026," said the SAC Chairman.
In addition, preparations are being made to vote using the Electronic Voting Machine system, which is a system that is suitable for our country and not easy to rig, despite the financial costs involved in the upcoming election. We must make preparations in advance to ensure that the multi-party democratic general election we are holding is free, fair, and free from fraud.
"We will use Electronic Voting Machines in each region and state, so we will be able to vote and receive the results in a short time. We will be able to verify the voter lists within a day or two, so we can complete the elections in the townships where elections can be held within a month. In any case, we need to successfully hold the elections in January 2026," said the SAC chairman.
In addition, he said that international efforts regarding advance voting are being studied and that voting is done using an Electronic Voting Machine, which requires people to vote in person, and that consideration must be given to ensuring that military personnel on security duties, members of the Myanmar Police Force, and people legally traveling abroad are able to vote.
Similarly, the SAC Chairman said that while political parties are allowed to participate in the elections in accordance with the law, there are also parties that have been disqualified for exceeding the rules and regulations for various reasons. –
