SAC shortens prison terms for detained former minister Thura Aung Ko from 12 to 6yr

The former religious and cultural minister Thura Aung Ko who was charged with 12 years prison sentence for work has been reduced his prison term by the State Administration Council to 6 years.
Yangon Region High Court ruled on March 14 that Thura Aung Ko was sentenced to 12 years prison term under Anti-Corruption Law.
The SAC reduces his prison sentence to half as per Sub-section 1 of Section 401 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
It was found that Thura Aung Ko illegally accepted the blank cheques worth ten million MMK and 30 million MMK respectively from relevant individual persons when annually awarding eight religious titles.
He was accused of accepting a Ford Everest Titanium car worth 100.5 million MMK from a businessperson and accepting a gold plate weighing 20 ticals.
The Ford Everest Titanium car, ten million MMK, and the gold plate were confiscated as the state fund as per the Yangon Region High Court decision.
Thura Aung Ko was a member of the Union Solidarity and Development Party. He turned out to be the NLD appointed minister in 2016. He has a close relationship with Aung San Suu Kyi.
