Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) and Arakan National Party (ANP) have joined the 32-party of Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee (UPDJC). Chairman of Arakan Front Party Dr. Aye Maung and Chairman of Peoples’ Party Ko Ko Gyi have reportedly pulled back their candidacies from the UPDJC political parties’ election.
UPDJC hold its political parties’ election on April 27 at the office of the political parties group located on Shweli Road, Kamaryut Township, Yangon.
Dr. Aye Maung’s AFP, USDP, and ANP received the same amount of favourable votes respectively during the election. When discussing selecting one party from three with the same voting results, Dr. Aye Maung stepped down from the process.
"Of course, there are some reasons why I have withdrawn my candidacy. Rakhine National Party comes involved and runs in the election. It receives favourable votes to a certain extent. I take that we do not need to be involved anymore in the election because involving one Rakhine party is enough.
Other ethnic parties can involve too. USDP was not included the first time. I welcome the USDP involved in the election this time,” said Dr. Aye Maung.
People’s Party led by Ko Ko Gyi has stepped down from being a nominee list for a member of the sub-committee of the political parties of the UPDJC.
“The election was negotiated due to some difficulties but went smoothly,” said an official from the UPDJC political parties.
In the previous term of the UPDJC political parties, Sai Aik Paung, chairman of the Shan Nationalities Democratic Party was the vice-chair and Cho Cho Kyaw Nyein of the Democratic Party (Myanmar) was the secretary.
Sai Aik Paung and Cho Cho Kyaw Nyein are re-elected for this term too. Tin Maung Oo from Union Better Party led by Thura Shwe Mann also rans in this election.
More than 40 political parties out of more than 90 political parties in Myanmar contested the UPDJC.
