The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Labor Nyunt Win told the NP News that about 500 Myanmar workers will be sent to Thailand under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) system for the first time next week.
Sending workers to Thailand from Myanmar has been suspended since March 2020 due to the Covid global pandemic. Now, Thailand resumes hiring workers.
“We will depart to Thailand next week. This is the first batch involving 500 workers going with the MoU. If this batch achieves success, next batches will be sent too,” said Nyunt Win.
It is reported that Myanmar workers will be sent through Myawaddy and Kawthaung border gates.
Nyunt Win added, “Currently, Thailand is the best labor market for us. Singapore takes second place. We are sending labours to Korea under G to G projects,” he said.
Migrant workers to Thailand from Myanmar had to pay 150,000 MMK (nearly 100 USD) to the employment agency previously. Now, each has to pay 300,000 MMK double charges.
