NP News - June 9
On June 8, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing visited the constitution-drafting ‘Nyaung Na Pin National Convention Center’ and ordered to revamp it.

The building was vacant for use for any purpose after the 2008 Constitution was enacted. It is located near Nyaung Na Pin Village, Hlegu Township, Yangon Region.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing told that the building is a historic site as it was a place where the 2008 Constitution was drafted. Former successive governments conducted preserving the historic buildings. However, less efficient maintenance processes resulted in deterioration.

The Chief Commander instructed to carry out the sustainable practices for renovations of the building with systematic landscape design at entrance and exit gates.

The national convention was convened seven times at the Nyaung Na Pin Convention Center by a total of 702 representatives when drafting the Constitution from 2004 to 2007.

With a total of 585.81 acres wide, the compound of Nyaung Na Pin Convention Center is now occupied as an agricultural zone on 200 acres as well as a livestock zone on 100 acres.

Dubious questions arise throughout the social media whether the Chief Commander’s instruction to renovate the Nyaung Na Pin Convention Center is to conduct the Constitutional amendment.

Political parties and ethnic groups proposed to amend the 2008 Constitution. The Defense Services also pledged to conduct the amendments for such provisos that should be amended.
