Karen National Union’s chairman General Saw Mutu Say Poe has agreed to serve as the leading patron of the Peace Process Steering Team (PPST), an organization with seven NCA signatory armed forces.

His agreement doesn’t represent or influenced by the KNU, said the general Saw Mutu Say Poe, as it is stated in the PPST’s term of reference that the leading patron has the right to serve the team without agreement or influence of the respective organization.

Leader of the PPST, Naing Aung Min, made a request last April to General Saw Mutu Say Poe to provide political guidance and leadership to the PPST.

General Saw Mutu Say Poe said that he respects and appreciates the desire of the ethnic organizations to have him serve as the leading patron of the PPST. He convinces himself to guide and lead to peace through dialogue.

The KNU Chairman Saw Mutu Say Poe resigned as the leader of the PPST in 2019 and now he returns to serve as the leading patron of the group.

Ten ethnic armed forces that have signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement are KNU, RCSS/SSA, PNLO, CNF, ALP, DKBA, ABSDF, NMSP, LDU and KNU/KNLA-PC.

The Peace Process Steering Team (PPST) previously included all ten ethnic groups of the NCA signatory; however, KNU, RCSS/SSA and CNF have suspended themselves as members of the PPST.
