Myanmar torn apart in the ongoing crisis – Dr. Ashin Sobhita

Myanmar has been in turmoil after 2021 political transition following the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

With regard this situation of the country, the International Buddhist Education Centre’s principal and Stockholm World Peace Prize Holder Buddhist Sayadaw Dr. Ashin Sobhita said “Myanmar society was severely torn during the last eighteen months of confrontation between political activists and the military forces.”

He made this remark during the speech at World Peace International Conference held on August 21, 2022 in Stockholm, Sweden. Sayadaw also requested to all stakeholders that are playing key roles in this political crisis from different aspects.

Sayadaw urged the international community to accept diversity, continuing “At the same time, we need to appreciate the sovereignty of a country, its people, traditions, culture, and beliefs so that we can coexist peacefully together.”

Buddhist monks in Myanmar have been actively participating in resolving the country’s political hardship since the British rule. When the military government of State Peace and Development Council introduced peace building and national reconciliation process in 2011, Sayadaw said.

Dr. Ashin Sobhita wished to find the bona fide cause of the conflict to prevent future conflicts.
