Suggestions for party registration law won’t be asked from political parties – UEC

Specific suggestions won’t be asked from the political parties with regard to newly enforcing law of the political parties registration, the Union Election Commission Spokesperson Khin Maung Oo said.

He gave the information at the press conference held in Naypyidaw on September 20.

At present, the commission is working to enact new legislation on political parties registration and bylaws.

“We are carrying out to have better functioning based on what we’ve learned in the previous experiences and findings from examining the political parties. We are preparing this law to install better and systematic processes in establishing political parties; recruiting memberships; funding, and opening offices,” Khin Maung Oo said.

Ministry of Legal Affairs and Office of the Union Attorney General are assisting the commission for enacting the abovementioned law.

“Therefore, we don’t ask the political parties for specific advice for this upcoming law. We will proceed legislation processes for this law systematically in accord with rules and regulations,” he continued.

However, political parties criticized that opinions from the political parties should be asked in the legislation process of the law.
