Passenger trucks and commodity trucks have been stranded and stuck on the Myawaddy-Kawkareik Asia Highway in Kayin State located near Tawnaw waterfall due to the intense armed clashes that have commenced since 18th October.
Authorities ban passing the Asia Road at an estimated 4 pm on 18th October, according to the truck drivers.
“Clashes have occurred since yesterday evening (18th October) and the Asia highway was blocked. In Kawkareik, trucks are banned from travelling at the entrance gate of Kawkareik. I think there might be a thousand of trucks that are stranded,” a driver told NP News.
Hundreds of Myanmar nationals who are travelling to Thailand for employment under MoU have been stuck on the way, charity and rescue officer from Kawkareik said.
The Asia Road has been blocked until evening of 19th October, according to the travelers.
Concerns have been rising over delay in commodity flows and traveling for emergency conditions and employment purposes.
Clashes frequently happened on the Asia Highway between Tatmadaw and joint forces of KNLA and PDF. The PDF troops frequently shot and attacked the passenger trucks on the road.
