Myanmar, Russia’s Rosatom discuss for electric sector cooperation

The Ministry of Electric Power (#MOEP) and representatives from the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation #Rosatom (Росатом) met and discussed for bilateral cooperation in nation’s improving electronic sector, according to information released by the State Administration Council.
The meeting was convened on December 8 in Naypyidaw.
During the meeting, the Union Minister for the MOEP Thaung Han discussed on longstanding bilateral relations to cooperate with Rosatom and negotiate for the needs on the ground.
He also made invitations to invest in the electricity generating sector including constructing power plant, small hydropower plants and renewable energy and wind energy project.
The officials have already agreed to conduct feasibility study for the thermal power plant project and study the potential locations.
Myanmar has been encountering shortage of electricity supply for many decades like suffering from a chronic disease and the country is implementing the #National_Electrification_Plan to have full access to electricity throughout the country by 2030.
A Nuclear Technology Information Center will be established and opened in Yangon. The agreement was also signed between Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM and Myanmar Ministry of Science and Technology in recent days.
The MOEP and Russia’s Rosatom have signed the memorandum of understanding on the feasibility studies and exploratory measurements to build a nuclear power plant in Myanmar.
