40 old political parties that fail to renew registration dissolved legal statuses

A total of 40 formerly existed political parties failed to renew their registrations as per Section 25 of the Political Parties Registration Law of which last date was March 29, 2023.

Therefore, the Union Election Commission (UEC) announced nullification of those 40 formerly existed political parties yesterday (on the last day of political parties registration date).

There were a total of more than 90 parties that existed as per the old Political Parties Registration Law that was enacted by the State Peace and Development Council in 2010.

Among 40 political parties which surrender their legal statuses involve National League for Democracy, Shan Nationalities League for Democracy, Lahu National Development Party and Kayan National Party.

There are a total of 63 political parties that have registered at the UEC; amongst, twelve political parties will organize nationwide; and the rest 51 are expected to run at state/region based.
