Authorities Impose Prohibition Of Sailing In Coastal Areas

As the Cyclone Mocha alert is getting high for Myanmar's Rakhine State, authorities announce forbidding sailing and fishing in Rakhine coastal line and the offshore.

As per the department announcement, the wind speed is forecasted to be 110 mph with the height of the wave ranging from 13 to 16 feet.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications announced that starting from the 12:00 pm of May 12, all fishing boats, ships and vessels are forbidden to go into sea. The necessary action will be taken to those who breached the warning.

The Department of Metrology and Hydrology Myanmar has issued the cyclone warning that under the influence of the very severe cyclonic storm Mocha, people should be aware of strong wind, heavy rain, flash flood and landslide in the hilly areas and near small rivers and also domestic flight, trawlers, vessels and ships off and along Myanmar Coasts.

There are some forecasts from weather observers that the Cyclonic Storm has rapid intensification conditions and it can pass to southwest of Sittwe on the evening of 13th May with the wind speed up to 120 miles per hour.

The weather observer also warned that the Cyclonic Strom can reach up to CAT-3 cyclone.

When it reaches to Sittwe in the early morning of May 14, its wind speed can reach up to 140 miles per hour moving to southwest direction.

According to JTWC’s prediction, the storm track can pass into land from Kyauk Pa Nu and Inndin villages.

The weather observer Win Naing said that according to the ECMWF model, with the wind speed of nearly 140 miles per hours, the storm surges can reach up to 38 feet high. Therefore, the regional and local responsible organizations said that those who are living near the coastal areas need to evacuate to safter places immediately.
