YANGON - Union Minister for Immigration and Population (MOIP) U Myint Kyaing discussed with Mr Ramanathan Balakrishnan, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Resident Representative to Myanmar for assisting Myanmar in processing to take the National Census in 2024.
The UNFPA reportedly will provide necessary help to Myanmar for operating the National Census in 2024.
“The UNFPA said it will help us in the upcoming National Census process. However, we don’t know yet how much and what part they will be assisting. No matter what it’s good that they will provide the necessary help. In fact, the UNFPA assisted in the 2014 National Census,” an officer from the MOIP said.
The 2014 National Census was taken in President U Thein Sein's Administration. At the time, the UNFPA provided the required techniques and assistance.
Pilot projects were run in a total of 20 townships from 1 October to 15 October in states and regions in 2023 to make sure for the convenience of the process of the 2024 National Census.
The report states that National Census and Household Statistics for 2024 will be operating between 1 October to 15 October 2024.
In Myanmar, National Censuses were taken in 1973, 1983, and 2014 at the national level.
