Myanmar political parties expect newly seated ASEAN chair will approach Myanmar issue constructively

Vice-chairperson of the Democratic Party’s (Myanmar) U Tin Swe hopes that the newly appointed ASEAN Chairman, the special representative for Myanmar affairs, is expected to approach with constructive means in handling the Myanmar affairs.

The ASEAN Special Representative, Alounkeo Kittikhoun schedule to meet with the NCA signatory ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) in Naypyidaw on January 10. Then, on January 12, he also will meet with the registered political parties and U Thein Soe, Chairman of the Union Election Commission.

“Reviewing the relationship with the ASEAN countries, the inland countries such as Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam are more convenient to interact with us than others. There will be success to a reasonable extent, I believe,” U Tin Swe said.

Political parties plan to present and discuss documents on the current political and armed crisis in the scheduled meeting between the special representative and the political parties.
