The State Administration Council (SAC) has stated that measures are being implemented to address the dissemination of politically manipulative fake news as well as sexually explicit contents on social media and the internet.

The SAC has established a committee to enforce legal measures against the dissemination of fake news, false information, posts containing explicit or implicit sexual content, as well as politically manipulative news and propaganda.

In the said committee, the role of Chairman will be assumed by the Deputy Minister for Home Affairs, while the position of Vice Chairman will be held by the Deputy Minister for Transport and Communication.

The SAC announced that individuals deliberately disseminating fake news, false information, content contrary to Myanmar tradition and cultures, posts containing sexually explicit materials, as well as politically manipulative news and propaganda, will undergo investigation and face appropriate actions.

The SAC has tasked the committee with conducting round-the-clock surveillance, aided by technical expertise, to address the aforementioned issues and take necessary actions.

The committee's mandate is to effectively implement measures regarding the creation, sharing, distribution, and promotion of politically manipulative propaganda and sexually explicit/implicit content, with current legal regulations.

The SAC has additionally tasked the committee with implementing countermeasures against fake news and combating misinformation and disinformation prevalent on social media.

The Ministry of Information under the SAC recently announced its intention to take action against movies, MTV songs, and clips deemed to have inappropriate sexual content or to be in violation of Myanmar cultural and traditional values.
