Myanmar expects more Vietnamese tourists inbound in upcoming March

U Naung Naung Han, chairman of the Myanmar Tourism Federation, told NP News that more Vietnamese tourists are expected to visit Myanmar in March 2024.

Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2019, the arrival of foreign tourists to Myanmar has decreased significantly. In addition, the tourism inbound is still decreasing due to the current occurring of political crisis.

At present, tourists from Thailand and China mostly visit Myanmar followed by Vietnamese tourists.

“Currently, most tourists come from Thailand and China. Vietnamese tourists used to visit Myanmar before. Normally, they often come around mostly in November, but due to the situation in Myanmar, some travel plans have been pushed back. Now in December and January, the tourism inbound increased again,” the Chairman U Naung Naung Han.

In addition, there are potentialities of more Vietnamese tourists coming in the upcoming March, he added.

“Previously, Myanmar was in the list of countries good to visit, and many Vietnamese tourists came in before Covid-19. Even now, only a few have come. Lately, there are potentialities of more Vietnamese tourists to Myanmar in March,” U Naung Naung Han said.

Currently, there is an increase in tourist arrivals in Myanmar and neighboring countries such as Thailand, including Laos and Cambodia, but the arrival of foreign tourists to Myanmar, which has political problems, is decreasing. Therefore, due to the mentioned situations, only about 20 percent of tourism enterprises are operating.
