Rakhine insurgents reportedly control security outposts in Kyauktaw; clashes keep intense in Minbya

The alliance group of Rakhine insurgents and other terrorists raided the No. 539 Light Infantry Unit in Kyauktaw Township, Rakhine State with massive troop numbers on 15 January. Armed conflicts were still intense in Minbya, the report states.

“The No. 539 Light Infantry fell yesterday at an estimated 3 pm. As far as I know, the Tatmadaw unit surrendered after negotiation was conducted with the enemy. Actually, they defended up to 3 pm and resisted. However, when the air troops did not come to assist, the Tatmadaw 539 Light Infantry Unit decided to surrender,” a reliable source close to the family of No. 539 Light Infantry Unit said.

However, families and relatives have not yet got contacts and have lost communications with the surrendered servicemen and their immediate families. Therefore, anxieties for the surrendered personnel have been rising.

No. 377 Artillery Battalion and No. 539 Light Infantry Unit have been seized by the insurgents and terrorists.

In addition, the insurgent groups continued attacking the military battalions in Minbya Township including No. 376 battalion in Kyauktaw, according to the source close to the security forces.

“We’ve heard that the battalion No. 376 has been raided this morning. The clashes in Minbya were known very hard and intense. It’s reported that three battalions in Minbya are also being raided. The insurgents are attacking with massive troop numbers,” the source said.

However, the Information Team under the State Administration Council (SAC) has not released any statement regarding to the said clashes.
