Reports state that in Kachin State where conflicts are intensified, the Myitkyina and Bhamo airports have been closed without limitation of days.

The joint forces of the following insurgents and terrorists: KIA (Kachin), AA (Rakhine) and PDF terrorists commenced military assaults at the Tatmadaw security outposts located along the Bhamo-Myitkyina road since 7 March morning.

Reports also states that the Kachin insurgents KIA and its allied terrorist groups shelled heavy weapons targeting the Military Command in Myitkyina from Laiza on 9 March.

“It’s true that the Myitkyina Airport has been closed. One of my friends had to cancel his trip schedule. The KIA started shelling from Laiza into Myitkyina City. The Tatmadaw also re-countered and therefore, I think, the airport has to be closed for security concerns,” a Myitkyina resident said.

Likewise, Bhamo Airport has also been closed since recent days since the terrorists launched heavy weapons to Bhamo Airport and therefore, the runway was damaged.
