Hsu/ Munich (NP News) - July 19
Due to the widespread and intense conflicts throughout the country, political discussions have nearly come to a standstill, as reported by Colonel Saw Kyaw Nyunt of the 7 EAO Alliance in The NP News.
Following their rebranding as the 7 EAO Alliance, peace talks between the ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) that signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) and the Tatmadaw have reportedly stalled.
"Given the extensive and intense conflicts across the country, political discussions—particularly peace negotiations—have become severely restricted. While some may characterize them as merely limited, I perceive them as nearly completely halted. This situation renders holding meetings impossible,” explained Colonel Saw Kyaw Nyunt.
At present, there have been renewed clashes between Tatmadaw and the MNDAA and TNLA in Lashio, Kyaukme, and Nawngkio in northern Shan State.
Additionally, ongoing clashes persist between the Tatmadaw and armed groups in various towns, including Rakhine State.
As a consequence, the 7 EAO Alliance persists in its efforts to engage with relevant stakeholders, aiming to restore the path of political dialogue—a course deemed the least detrimental for the Union, as stated by Colonel Saw Kyaw Nyunt.
“We, as the 7 EAO Alliance, firmly believe that addressing the current national crisis necessitates political solutions. Our unwavering commitment to this belief persists despite numerous challenges and criticisms. We actively collaborate with relevant stakeholders to restore the political dialogue table, which we consider the least detrimental course of action for our Union,” he stated.
The 7 EAO Alliance is organized by the representatives from Restoration Council for Shan State (RCSS), Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA), KNU/KNLA-Peace Council, Arakan League Party (ALP), Lahu Democratic Union (LDU), Pa-O National Liberation Organization (PNLO), and New Mon State Party (NMSP). The body is currently led by the RCSS Chairman General Yawd Serk.
