Myanmar Week: Senior General's working visit in China strengthens ties in region

Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) as well as the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services of Myanmar Senior General Min Aung Hlaing departed for Kunming City, People’s Republic of China on 5 November and attended a series of regional meetings, bilateral talks, and economic discussions.
From 6 to 7 November, he participated at the 8th Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) Summit, 10th Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) Summit, and 11th Cambodia-Lao PRD-Myanmar-Vietnam (CLMV) Summit. The official visit of the Senior General commenced on 5 November.
On the first day of his visit, he (the Army Chief) discussed economics and investment opportunities in Myanmar with the Chinese national businesspersons. Senior General invited to make business investments in potential economic sectors in Myanmar such as agriculture, energy, and electricity. During the event, Senior General Mina Aung Hlaing reaffirmed Myanmar's commitment to providing the necessary support and working closely with Chinese investors to foster further economic development.
On 6 November, the Senior General held a bilateral talk with the Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the Haigeng Garden Hotel in Kunming, China. Extract from China-Myanmar Bilateral Talk: Chinese Premier Li Qiang –
• China and Myanmar share a border and have established deep and longstanding Pauk-Phaw tie. Despite political changes and challenges, both countries have managed to navigate through them with a strong, enduring relationship. Moving forward, their friendship and cooperation will continue to strengthen.
• China will fully support and assist Myanmar in maintaining domestic peace and stability, and as a good neighbour, will continue to stand by Myanmar permanently.
• The Myanmar government has been praised for its efforts to resolve the ongoing armed conflicts not through violent means, but through political dialogue and peaceful solutions. China has expressed its support for the five-points roadmap set by the State Administration Council (SAC) and has also pledged to assist in ensuring the successful conduct of Myanmar’s elections.
• The stability and peace in northern Myanmar are of great importance, and China reaffirms its recognition of Myanmar's sovereignty and territorial integrity. China will not tolerate any actions within its own territory that seek to undermine Myanmar's interests.
• The border gates between the two countries should remain under the management of the respective governments, and efforts will continue to ensure full and effective management.
• Efforts will continue to enhance the China-Myanmar relationship and political trust through further dialogue and cooperation.
• As the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor is a top-tier project, efforts will be ramped up to accelerate its development.
• Starting from the upcoming 75th anniversary of the establishment of China-Myanmar diplomatic tie, cooperation in various sectors will be made to consolidate bilateral friendship and deepen the collaboration between the two peoples. China would firmly stand with Myanmar on the international stage.
Senior General Min Aung Hlaing –
• It is believed that cooperation between the two countries will continue to strengthen not only bilaterally but also in regional and international arenas.
• Myanmar has been consistently supporting the One-China policy.
• Appreciate for the assistance and support provided in the aftermath of the damage caused by the Typhoon Yagi.
• China is the second largest investor among the 52 foreign countries investing in Myanmar, and a special focus is placed on the safety of Chinese investments, projects, and people.
• Discussions and collaboration will be continued on economic and technological assistance, joint cooperation, and ensuring energy security for the development and progress of Myanmar.
• The construction of the Muse-Mandalay-Kyaukphyu railway project will begin at locations where work can be initiated, based on the ground situation.
• Under the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor project, Myanmar is giving high priority to the implementation of the economic corridor development plan.
