Yan Aung, one of the most famous film stars in Myanmar and who spent his life in the film industry for nearly 40 years, has been now threatened by the so-called revolutionists or the PDF terrorists.

The actor Yan Aung’s house located in Yangon’s Yankin Township was threatened with the handmade explosive bomb on 14 November for welcoming back the Senior General Min Aung Hlaing from China on 10 November in Naypyidaw. The bomb went off in the compound of the house.

One of the terrorist groups named ‘Dark Shadow’ claimed the responsibility for the attack.

The Dark Shadow group has issued a statement, claiming that the first attack on the residence of the actor Yan Aung was a warning, due to his public support for the State Administration Council government (SAC) seen on social media. The statement further mentions that other artists who have expressed support for the SAC are being warned, with the attack on Yan Aung’s residence serving as an example to them.

Due to the relatively low impact of the bomb attack, there was no significant damage to the actor’s residence. However, Yan Aung mentioned that he has been experiencing feelings of fear and insecurity. It has also been reported that the local security forces are taking measures to ensure his safety.

The artist community has been already experienced with such threats and intimidation from armed groups. On May 30, 2023, in Yankin Township, singer Lili Naing Kyaw, who was also a member of Patriotic Association of Myanmar, tragically lost her life after being shot by a PDF member while driving back to her home.

The violent actions of the PDF terrorists have not only escalated in rural areas but have also become more apparent in urban centers, with high-profile artists now becoming targets. This has led to the urgent need to enhance urban security measures, prompting the deployment of additional forces to address the situation.
